HAPPY FALL

This afternoon, I decided to spend some much needed quality time with my Silhouette Cameo machine so that I can make a card for the Chemo Angel program.  Since it is the fall time of the year, I suppose it is only fitting to use a fall theme for my project.  Subsequently it was time to find some fall items in my collections of silhouette files.  Boy was I surprised at the number of files I have collected with the fall theme.  Low and behold, this cute bear sitting at the fence with a pumpkin caught my eye.

This cutie pie of a bear image consisted of several small pieces to cut; therefore, the good old scrap bin was the perfect place to get the orange, brown, and green cardstock.  Once I assembled the image, I could not resist using Creatology 8MM wiggle eyes on the bear.  Those eyes makes him even cuter don’t you think? Then I added “Happy Fall” to a print and cut shape file for my sentiment.   I nearly forgot to mention the card with the leaf overlay is also a Silhouette cut file which includes an envelope and liner.  How awesome is that?  I just love using my Cameo.

The card still seemed a little plain to me so I added some washi tape and some retired SU buttons with twine placed in the button holes.  Then I popped the sentiment and one of the acorns with foam tape.  You all know how I love adding dimension to my projects.

Well, the project didn’t stop there because I ran across an unfinished tea bag/Ghirardelli candy square holder while digging through my scraps.  Don’t ask why it was there as I haven’t a clue but that holder was at my mercy from the moment I found it until I finished embellishing it.  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Make Your Own Envelopes

Let’s Talk Envelopes -- ENABLER ALERT!

A few weeks ago while attending a scrapbooking retreat, one of my wonderful crafting friends, Lynne Buford, showed this wonderful tool made by We R Memory Keepers™.  The name of the tool is Envelope Punch Board.

 

I made the following 4.5” x 3.5” card for a baby shower and made the perfect fit envelope for the card using the envelope punch board.    I am very much into embellishing envelopes that do not have to go postal.  J

You can literally make any size envelope for any size card using the board.  Here are two video1 / video2 to check out the board.  I chose these videos because I felt Crafttestdummies thoroughly tested the tool and provided great tips and tricks for an accurate use of the envelope punch board.  The second video is updated information on the board.

Altered Composition Book

                                            ALTERED COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK

            The following is a list of supplies I used; however, you should use whatever supplies you have on hand or ones you are comfortable using.

Paper: White and black cardstock of your choice.

Ink: Ranger Dylusions ink spray, Perfect Peals mist spray, Krylon gold leafing pen, Viva pearl pens, Stazon ink pad, Memento ink pad, Sharpie brush marker, Smooch pearlized accent Ink, Stampin Up all-purpose Ink;

Adhesives:  YES Glue (Can be found at Michaels), Redline Tape adhesive, foam tape, ATC;

Punches:  1” circle punch, large hole punch, corner rounder, Stampin Up slant punch, Flower Soft glue;

Miscellaneous:  Paper towels, cardboard box top large enough to catch extra spray mist, water in small mister bottle, Flower Soft,  bling, glitter, 1” paint brush to apply YES paste, white prima flowers, Ranger white crinkle ribbon, embossing folders, embossing machine, sticky-back canvas, assorted rubber stamps, and heat gun.

 STEP 1:

            Cut white cardstock to cover book at 6 2/3” x 9 2/3”.  Lightly mist one side of cardstock with water and turn paper over.  Use dylusions ink sprays of your choice to color the facing side of card stock.  Use paper towels to blot off excess color as needed and when you are satisfied with your color combinations.  Lightly mist with Perfect Pearls mist.  Blot dry with paper towel and lay it to the side. 

            Let’s talk about the sticky-back canvas.  I am not sure how many different types of sticky-back canvas are available, but most people use the Claudine Hellmuth Studio Sticky-Back Canvas for their projects.  Cut the canvas to the size of your choice and cut a piece of black card stock ¼” longer on all four sides.  Spray the canvas side with the colors of your choice.  Make sure you blot off excess inks when necessary and when you have the canvas colored to your satisfaction.

            Use a heat gun to completely dry the colored cardstock and canvas.  Be careful not to burn the paper or canvas while drying them.

 

STEP 2

            Use an embossing folder and machine of your choice to emboss your canvas.  Use an accent ink of your choice to lightly rub across the canvas to high light the raised image.

            Use a paint brush to apply YES paste to inked cardstock.  This glue is used by book binding companies.  Make sure to apply enough glue to all the edges of your cardstock.  HINT:  I use an old telephone book to place my paper and/or cardstock on and apply the glue.  Turn the page in the book as needed to brush on adhesive to additional paper and/or cardstock.  Apply inked cardstock to book. 

            I like this glue because it allows plenty of time to move the paper and/or cardstock in the right spot on the book.  Also, this glue easily washes off hands and the paint brush with soap and warm water. 

            The down side of using YES paste is you have to mix it in a container with water.  You should put a small amount of glue in a bowl with a lid that is deeper enough to mix it the water and glue.  You should start with about two tablespoons of glue with about 2 ounces of hot water. It’s easier to add more hot water than starting out with too much water.  The glue should be about the same consistency as regular Elmer’s glue.

 

STEP 3

            Now it’s time to embellish the front of the book using any and every thing you like.  I used the same inking technique as the cardstock and canvas to color the prima flowers and crinkle ribbon.  Once the book is finished, place under a heavy stack of books for 24 – 48 hours because this will decrease the amount the cover curls.

Jumbo Gem Clip Book Marks

I finally finished making the bookmarks for the crop in October.  You can find the tutorial for the gem clips at Jumbo Paperclip Tutorial on YouTube.  Instead of using store bought bling as an embellishment, I decided to make my own dew drops using hot glue and alcohol re-inks for these cuties.  You can find the tutorial on how to make the dew drops on the Frugal Crafter’s blog.

SCRAP FAVORS

               Today, I want to give you some ideas for favors you can make for events from welcoming someone to your neighborhood to end of the year teacher’s gifts.  The great thing about these favors is you can easily make them using your paper scraps on hand. 

The first item is a book mark made using scrap chipboard, cardstock, and design paper that I had in my stash and extra jumbo paper clips I purchased from Wal-Mart many years ago. Wal-Mart does not carry the silver ones anymore; but, they have colored ones that you can purchase for less than $3.00.  I think these are great gifts for teachers.  There are several tutorials on YouTube that you can get more ideas for this project.

          Now let me move on to the sour cream containers.  These are fun and easy to make.  There are also several tutorials on YouTube that you can check out.  As you will see, I embellished mine just a little bit different than the ones in most of the videos.    I spellbinder dies and a little ribbon for embellishments.  However, I did cut the paper at 4 ¼ x 5 ½.

          Lastly, the tea bag or Ghirardelli candy holders were also made using my scraps.  The use for these holders is endless.  Like the other two projects, I have provided a link for a tutorial for this fast and easy project.  The embellishment options for this holder are endless.  I put my spellbinders dies and Copic markers work on the embellishment for these holders.

Christmas in July with Verve

This Center Step Card was made using a retired SU Christmas paper pack which had Mellow Moss and Real Red cardstock and coordinating striped papers.  I used spellbinders dies to cut the shapes for the center of the card.  The tree is made from the Verve O Christmas Tree stamp set by stamping it with versa mark ink and adding color with PearlEx powder pigments. The sentiment on the envelope and card are also from the same stamp set.  I JUST LOVE VERVE STAMPS!

Wouldn’t you know, Verve is currently running a 20% off sale on all of their stamp sets until August 4, 2012.

I altered the card just a little so that it would fit into a 5.5”x 5.5” envelope and followed the YouTube video instructions on how to make it with my Martha Stewart scoreboard.   Essentially, you use an 8.5” x 8.5” piece of paper and score at 3 1/8” on all sided.  Oh yea, how about this wonderful tool has been in the box sitting in a corner for over 6 months.  I’m trying to do better when it comes to using what I have instead of purchasing more stuff and I am proud to report that I used things that I have on hand already and it feels GOOOOOOD. Not to mention, it feels good to my pocketbook.   Hahahahahaha
